As we continue on through this year with all its ups and downs, let us not forget these 5 truths concerning the nature and purpose of our suffering!
1. Suffering is inevitable.
John 16:33
I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
2. God is present through your suffering.
Psalm 23:4
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
3. Suffering is part of God’s plan.
Romans 8:28
And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
4. Suffering causes us to grow.
Romans 5:3-5
More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
5. Suffering will one day end.
2 Corinthians 4:17
For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison.
